Bunbury Offshore Wind

Working with the Local Community

EDF power solutions Australia understands that the development of new energy projects can impact local communities. We are committed to engaging and understanding the priorities of the people that live in the communities that will both benefit, and be impacted by, the emergence of offshore wind in Western Australia.

We will work with stakeholders to make sure we meet our project goals in the most environmentally and socially responsible ways possible. Through stakeholder engagement and a commitment to understand local sentiment, we will ensure consideration of the broader community, including opposition to offshore wind, for project planning.

Supporting Communities

Building Our Future Together

We strive to be a positive contributor to the communities we work in. EDF power solutions Australia proudly sponsors Bunbury Senior High School's STEM robotics programme, supporting students as they explore engineering, coding and hands‑on problem solving.

As part of the school's Engineering Pathways, students design, build and program robots for the annual FIRST Robotics Competition. Through the programme, students develop practical technical skills, gain project management experience and strengthen teamwork skills while taking projects from prototype to competition.

By encouraging the next generation of scientists and engineers, we hope to support the region’s talent pipeline, local innovation, and open career pathways. Investing in young people today builds a brighter future for our community.

Opportunities

Contributing to the Local Economy

EDF power solutions Australia is committed to maximising local opportunities and benefits from the project. This means jobs for locals, opportunities for local contractors and service providers, and community support.

Local opportunities to get involved in the supply of goods or services during the construction and operational phases include:

  • Plant and Equipment Hire, Excavation and Earthmoving, Trenching, Concrete Batching and Supply, Crainage
  • Electricians, mechanical fitters, winch technician, rigger, mobile plant operator
  • Offshore construction, HDD, Turbine technician

Coal Workforce Transition Roles

Collie has long been the backbone of our region’s energy supply, and the skills forged in its coal industry provide a strong foundation for the shift to offshore wind. Many local workers hold key trade and engineering qualifications or possess hands‑on expertise that are essential for the offshore wind industry. Roles such as electricians, mechanical fitters, instrumentation technicians, unit controllers, engineers and plant operators share significant overlap with offshore wind needs.

With targeted upskilling, certification and training programs, these core competencies can be redirected efficiently into windfarm construction, operation and maintenance, supporting both workers and the region’s clean‑energy future.
